This article is about how newborn baby's cry they are really learning their language. Kathleen Wermke thinks that the cry melody is really the beginning of language development. Kathleen and colleagues experimented on 30 German and 30 French babies. They analyzed the melody whether the cries rise from lower pitches to higher pitches or from higher pitch to lower pitches. Their results were that the French babies cries were rising melody when the German babies cries were falling melody. The reason why this happened was because of their language and how its spoken. Wermke says,"Why should a baby wait for 4, 5, 6 months before starting this language development?" Janet Werker a developmental psychologist was shocked at this result. "[newborns] can hear the difference between things, they have a preference for their mother's voice, but to show that it's actually affecting their cry production is pretty stunning." Says Janet. I believe that newborns do start learning their language when they cry. I say this because Kathleen did a experiment and it proves that her theory was correct. She didn't just experiment on 1 German and 1 French baby, but she experimented on 30 German and 30 French babies. Therefore, when a newborn baby cries it's not only because they want milk or their dippers changed, they're really learning their language.
